Sewing machines for young people in Nigeria

Sewing machines for young people in Nigeria
At the Peace Centre in the Shangbum/Ukpeh community in the Nigerian state of Benue, 20 young people are currently receiving tailoring training. Four sewing machines have already been sponsored through the bag project and are supporting these young people on their path to a self-determined future.

Training that creates opportunities
A tailoring apprenticeship can be an important step towards independence for young people in their home community. Anyone who learns to sew and has the necessary basic equipment can work locally, earn an income and provide for themselves and their family in the long term.
The aim of the project is simple and effective: young people should not only receive training, but also the practical means to apply what they have learned. A starter set with a sewing machine and tailoring supplies can make the crucial start possible.
From bag sales to a sewing machine
In Austria, bags are sewn and sold as part of the project using fabrics with a connection to Nigeria. Each bag is unique and helps make access to training and working materials easier for young people in Nigeria.

Thanks to the proceeds from the bag project, four sewing machines for tailoring training at the Peace Centre have already been financed. Every further donation helps expand the project and give even more young people a concrete career prospect.
Impressions from the project
The photos show how closely the project connects people in Austria and Nigeria: bags are sewn and prepared here, while sewing machines enable young people there to receive practical training.

How you can help
If you would like to support the project, you can contribute in various ways:
Sew along and support the production of more bags.
Buy one of the handmade bags made from fabrics with a connection to Nigeria (see image below)
Become a sponsor for a sewing student.
Support the project with a one-off donation.
Every contribution helps to bring training, tools and future opportunities together.
